Bata Malaysia aims higher

The Malaysian branch of multinational shoe corporation Bata is aiming to increase its share of the Malaysian footwear market to 15% over the next three years, according to its managing director for emerging markets east, Marcello Pace.

 

Bata Malaysia currently has a share of 11%. “Malaysia is among the top three markets in South-East Asia,” said Mr Pace. “We sell approximately 120 million shoes a year in Malaysia and we are expecting to sell more this year,” he said following the opening of the renovated Bata Premier Store in Kuala Lumpa.

 

The flagship store has been renovated and given a new European concept. Bata, Mari Claire, Power, Sparx, North Star and Bublegummers are among the brnds promoted by Bata stores in Malaysia. Bata stores will now also feature international brands including Rockport, Hush Puppies, Nike and adidas.

 

“We foresee some improvement in sales,” said Mr Pace.
