Shoe ownership at healthy levels in Colombia

17/02/2011
Women in Colombia own, on average 7.1 pairs of shoes, while men in the South American have an average of just over five pairs. The country’s footwear and leather industry association, Acicam, issued this statistic at the start of the Bogotá International Footwear and Leather Exhibition on February 16.

While pleased that shoe ownership is healthy, the Acicam president, Luis Gustavo Flórez, complained that consumer studies had confirmed that most Colombians were paying less and less money for their shoes. He said retailers had sold 11.9 million pairs last year for less than $30, many of them imported from Asia, which is a concern to local manufacturers.
