Young designer strikes lucky with Atlantic Leather
11/02/2011
After seeing the leather in the extensive samples display section at the exhibition, Ms Fallope tentatively approached the stand of the company that produced it, Iceland’s Atlantic Leather, to ask if there was any chance of receiving the sample for her to use. Many tanneries that contribute to the sample area donate the pieces of leather they bring to Paris, but it’s customary for the organisers to return expensive pieces, especially if the leather is exotic.
Leatherbiz understands that Atlantic Leather’s managing director, Gunnsteinn Björnsson, could scarcely have been more accommodating. On hearing of Ms Fallope’s interest, he told her she could take the sample, without any problem. Realising she was dealing with a tannery that delights in helping young designers, Ms Fallope decided to go the whole hog and mentioned that, while she loved the pink colour, the same metallic effect on salmon skin dyed blue would have been even better for the shoes she had in mind.
Mr Björnsson’s response was to clarify with her exactly which shade of blue she had in mind and to promise to tan some fish skin especially for her on his return home to Iceland.
