Robofoot aims to update footwear industry
Spain-based Tekniker-IK4 technological centre recently announced a new project that aims to implement robotics into the footwear industry. The Robofoot project, initiated by Tekniker-IK4 consortium, aims to help various manufacturing complications in the footwear sector.
The project will introduce a host of robotized solutions in the upcoming two and a half years to a range of operations that are currently being undertaken manually.
Robofoot comprises a consortium of bodies from Germany, Italy, and Spain. The consortium features two footwear manufacturers, four industrial companies, and four technological centres, and will explore ways to handle non-rigid products and employ programming methods and useable control strategies for robots.
The Robofoot project, with an overall budget of EUR3.7 million, of which EUR2.56 million is funded under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union, began its work last September and is scheduled for completion in February 2013.
