Dutch retail group buys Jones Bootmaker

Eindhoven-based Macintosh Retail Group has announced the acquisition of Jones Bootmaker, which currently has 93 outlets across the UK.

Macintosh said it was keen to add to a footwear portfolio that includes shops in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and the UK under brands including Doclis, Manfield and Brantano.

Jones Bootmaker chairman, Peter Phillips and chief executive, Ken Bartle, bought into the company following the financial crisis of 2008 and, according to media reports in the UK, hold around 70% of the shares. The same reports say Macintosh values the group at around £40 million; the two entrepreneurs are reported to have paid £4.5 million for their stake, bought from an Icelandic private equity group.

At the time of the Macintosh announcement, Mr Jones said: “The board of directors are delighted to have been acquired by a business with an established track record in the footwear sector. We are quite clear that both companies share a mutual vision of a combined group dedicated to the sale of quality footwear and the experience of superb customer service which has always been associated with this heritage brand. We consider that this acquisition will be hugely beneficial to our customers, staff and suppliers.”
