Italian machinery installed in Cuban factory

A footwear company in Cuba has installed up-to-date machinery from Europe and has said the new technology will enable it to double its output of boots for the country’s military.

The footwear firm, Onell Cañete, is based in the city of Manzanillo in the east of Cuba. Technical director, Julio Ramírez, told local media that new machines from Italy would go into one of three factories it runs in the area and that the company would use it specifically in the production of a boot model called Coloso, which the company produces for the Cuban armed forces.

Company director Noemi Villalón said that that, before the arrival of the new technology, the factory was producing only 200 pair of shoes a day; an insufficient figure to meet the demand.
