The Argentinean footwear industry achieved a target of producing more than 100 million pairs of shoes in 2010, according to the industry association in the country, CIC.

CIC president, Alberto Sellaro, said in a statement that more than 50% of the shoes produced in Argentina were made of leather, that imports from China had decreased by 68% (as a result of anti-dumping measures that the South American country has adopted), while shipments of shoes to its Mercosur trading partners (Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) went up by 36%.

For the first time, Mr Sellaro added, Argentina exported shoes (more than 10 million pairs) to China last year.
