France: specialist footwear manufacturer in trouble

06/01/2011
The Luxat footwear brand, based in the French-Basque town of Briscous, has filed for bankruptcy protection, local media have reported. The company’s owner, Jean-Luc Ferlicchi, said the measures would be in place for six months, during which time he said he was hoping for an upturn in Luxat’s fortunes. The brand specialises in comfort shoes.

Mr Ferlicchi said he had taken this step reluctantly, but that it had come on the back of two consecutive years of losses, which he attributed to a decrease in orders, wider competition from around the globe and a fall in sales prices.

The company employs a total of 104 people, 82 of them in its warehouse in Briscous.
