Leder and Schuh to lose chief executive

Rainer Kundörfer, chief executive of Austrian footwear trade group Leder and Schuh, is to leave the company at the end of the year. Mr Kundörfer was responsible for much of the retailing group’s expansion. He joined the company in 1995 and was appointed chief executive in 2005. At the start of 2011, he intends to take a short personal break before embarking on a new professional challenge.
 
Leder and Schuh has not announced a direct replacement for the 48-year-old; but it has stated that Mr Kundörfer’s tasks will be distributed as part of restructuring. Remaining on the board are  Gottfried Maresch (chairman), Peter Horvath and Peter Heinz Mandl.
 
Leder and Schuh claims to be one of the largest shoe retailers in Europe. With its store formats Corti, Dominici, Humanic, Jello and Shoe 4 You, the group has a presence in 11 countries, with a total of 346 stores. Sales during 2009 increased by 4.3% to EUR496 million.
