Esperanza Aguirre wins footwear honour

29/11/2010
The president of Madrid’s regional parliament, Esperanza Aguirre, has been named as Spain’s best shod woman of 2010. The award is presented every year to a woman whose taste and style in footwear catch the eye of a judging panel set up by the foundation in charge of the footwear museum in the shoe-manufacturing town of Elda, in the province of Alicante.

Esperanza Aguirre said she was delighted to accept the honour and carried on the winners’ tradition of donating a pair of her own shoes to the museum. She picked a pair of white heeled shoes that she wore while caught up in the attack on the Oberoi Trident hotel in Mumbai, India, exactly two years ago.

The shoes were made in Elda.
