Footwear sales at Selfridges soar
British department store Selfridges has reported an increase of 71% for footwear sales since opening its Shoe Galleries area in September.
Selfridges set sales projections for Shoe Galleries when it opened, but within two months of trading the retailer is set to better year three of its sales plan, with sales of footwear up 71% against the year, according to the retailer.
An average of 7,000 pairs of shoes per week are sold out of the Shoe Galleries and during its best week to date, Selfridges sold 10,000 pairs.
“When we opened we started with 36 exclusive styles,” said Sebastian Manes, director of accessories. “For spring we’ll have quite a lot of exclusives – what we’re really proud of is that we have an amazing offer in fashion. The consumer is recognising that it’s a great shoe department.”
Designers selling in the Shoe Galleries include Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs and Prada.
