Best to buy shoes in the afternoon
To get a shoe that really fits, consumers are better off waiting till the afternoon before trying them on, according to the German Shoe Institute (DSI). Feet, says the DSI, are wider in the evening than they are in the morning, so buying shoes in the morning could result in owning shoes that are too tight. As shoes tend to be worn all day long, the best time to buy them is the afternoon, ensuring they are not too loose in the morning or too tight in the evening.
The Institute advises that if a shoe is too tight, the consumer should not get the next size up but rather choose a different model. Likewise, if a shoe is too long, buying a size smaller is not necessarily the best solution. A well-fitting shoe holds the ball of the foot best, without pressing there.
