Tunisian leather and footwear exports grow

According to the country’s national leather and footwear centre, this year’s figures exceeded Tunisia’s record export figures in 2008. Higher footwear sales were the main growth driver, accounting for 61.2% of total leather and shoe exports during the nine-month period.
Italy, France and Germany are the main export destinations for Tunisian leather and footwear shipments, accounting for 87.4% of total exports.
Tunisia imported leather and footwear worth 454.8 million between January and September, up 13.6% compared with the same period in 2009. According to the official figures, 56.1% of the sector’s overall imports are imports of leather, skins and furs at 255.2 million dinars. Accessories and components came in second place at 86.3 million dinars and footwear upper imports came third at 63 million dinars.
