Sole leather production the big success story in Pakistan

New official figures show that Pakistani leather production increased slightly in August.

Finished leather production totalled 2.072 million square-metres compared with 2.068 million square-metres in August 2009, a growth of 0.2%.
Finished leather exports for the first two months of the financial year (July and August) totalled four million square-metres compared with 3.9 million square-metres during the same period last year (3.4%).
Footwear production grew 25.4% in August to 3.1 million pairs compared with 2.5 million pairs in the prior-year period. Shoe production increased by 35.2% to 6.9 million pairs in the July-August period, up from 5.1 million pairs last year.

However, sole leather production showed the biggest increase, up 530.7% in August to 82 tonnes compared with 13 tonnes in August 2009.
Sole leather production grew 48.6% to 162 tonnes from 29 tonnes during the first two months of the financial year.
