Simple launches open design competition
21/10/2010
The brief relates to the creation of a new identity for Simple Shoes as it celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2011. The design competition is being hosted via behance.net, web platform for creative professionals. All creatives have to do is submit examples from their portfolios that exemplify excellence in identity design (past work) to http://www.behance.net/competitions/simple by Monday, October 25, 2010. A $5,000 project prize is up for grabs.
A four-person expert panel of judges appointed by Simple Shoes will select a top five based on the quality of the work submitted. The five designers selected will then be invited to join Simple’s design roster and create a new brand identity for the company, with a $2,500 guaranteed payment for responding to the brief. The five finalists will then compete against Simple’s agency, One Trick Pony, with their submissions. The winning brand identity—either one of the new designers or the agency—will receive an additional $5,000 and their work will become the new official Simple Shoes brand identity which will be unveiled in January 2011 to kick off Simple’s year-long anniversary celebration.
“Simple has never really done things according to the status quo, so when we started thinking about giving our brand identity a facelift for our twentieth anniversary, we wanted to shake things up a bit,” said Will Pennartz, Simple’s marketing manager. “We also want to see what the people who wear our shoes would come up with. We wanted to see what designers outside of our immediate circle would come up with to refresh our brand, but we respect the creative community and didn’t want to encourage unpaid spec work.”
