Asolo mourns lost climber

Italian mountain footwear brand Asolo has announced the death of one of its sponsored climbers, Walter Nones.

Mr Nones died at the start of October in the Himalayas, along with two companions, attempting to open up a new route on the south-west face of Cho Oyu in Nepal, the sixth highest mountain in the world at 8,201 metres.

“The news came yesterday afternoon, and has left us speechless,” Asolo said in a statement. “Walter, a formidable climber and considerable athlete, was above all a friend to us and a person with whom it was nice to share the various moments of each day.”

The company said it would always remember the visit Walter Nones made to its headquarters in northern Italy and his accounts of life in the mountains.
