Vietnamese shoe exports show strong growth
Vietnam’s leather and footwear exports are estimated to have reached $3.6 million during the first nine months of the year, according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso). This represents a rise of 23.1% compared with last year.
According to the association, the sector is on track to reach its $5.4 million target for the year. Its main export destinations are the EU, the US, Mexico, Brazil and Japan.
However, in order to keep the leather and footwear industry on its path of growth, Lefaso has submitted a development strategy proposal to the government. The proposal covers the period up to the end of 2020 and focuses on the materials and technologies industries.
Under the plan, the association expects to see exports total $8.5 billion from exports by 2015 and $11 billion by 2020.
