20/09/2010
There are 13 footwear companies in the town and they have all been accredited to use the China Leather Industry Associaion’s Genuine Leather Mark. They have a combined turnover of around $600 million and a total production capacity of 70 million pairs of leather shoes each year. Between these production companies and retail outlets in the city’s Suzhong Commerce and Trade City, the footwear industry provides 40,000 jobs in Jiangdu.
The pilot project began in 2006 when national quality assurance agencies set up a series of exercises to regulate production in Jiangdu and improve the quality of the shoes made there.
As the project continues, producers in the city will be encouraged to keep improving quality by investing in up-to-date technology.
