Shoes go up in price in China

The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has reported that footwear prices in the country are rising as the autumn season begins. The rising price of finished leather and recent increases in labour costs are the reasons footwear manufacturers have offered.

A recent survey of department stores in China’s largest cities found that the average price of branded women’s shoes had gone up from around $90 per pair to nearer $105. Footwear manufacturers have explained the increase by saying the price they are paying for finished leather has gone up by between 10% and 15%, while labour costs have also increased by 10%.
