China: footwear sector growth confirmed

During the first seven months of 2010, China registered growth in leather exports of 28.7%, with leather footwear leading the way.

Between January and July 2010, Chinese leather sector exports had a value of $17.7 billion, up from from $13.7 billion during the corresponding period last year, according to official data from China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).

The breakdown showed that the country exported leather footwear worth $5.6 billion against $4.7 billion last year, growth of 18.9%. Exports of leather garments increased by 26.1% to $448.9 million from $356.3 million. Finished and semi-finished leather exports brought in $226.2 million, an increase of 92.7%, while exports of raw hides and skins were worth $2.2 million over the seven-month period.
