INESCOP launches essential oils in shoes project

02/09/2010
Spanish footwear technology institute INESCOP has launched a new project to develop shoes that combat odour and care for the feet.

Funded by the regional government of Valencia, the project will attempt to work out the best way to incorporate essential oils into shoe materials so that the wearer would enjoy continuous footcare and an in-shoe environment that would prevent bacteria and unpleasant odour from developing.

On announcing the plan, INESCOP said microencapsulation was a new idea in the world of footwear, but that the European footwear industry has to keep exploring possibilities for innovation to remain competitive.
