Exhibitor numbers up 2% at GDS

Around 780 exhibitors are expected to attend footwear and accessories trade show GDS, which will take place in Düsseldorf from September 10-12. Between them they will represent 34 countries and will present 1,800 collections for spring-summer 2011.

Werner Dornscheidt, president and CEO at organising company Messe Düsseldorf, said: "With its unique combination of product variety, information and lifestyle orientation, GDS is held in high esteem in the industry. The 2% increase in exhibitors in season comparison is distributed throughout all areas. And the registration numbers are stable...in spite of the still difficult market situation in the region. Exhibitors from the Netherlands are returning in high numbers."

"The shoe industry is clearly recuperating after the rather difficult year 2009.

This is also reflected in the excellent exhibitor numbers for GDS," said

GDS director, Kirstin Deutelmoser. "The manufacturers have not lost their courage for entering the market with new collections, so that a visit to the shoe shop is always an experience for the consumer. The fact that the first half-year 2010 was satisfactory for the German shoe retail trade is a good indicator that it will be in the mood to order at GDS from 10 to 12 September."

Global Shoes will again run concurrently with GDS.
