Tunisian shoe exports on the rise
Tunisia’s leather and footwear exports grew 13.5%, or 56 million dinars ($37.7 million), during the first quarter of 2010, compared with the prior-year period.
Exports for the sector totalled 471.5 million dinars during the first quarter, while imports reached 315.3 million dinars.
About 91% of Tunisia’s leather and shoe exports are shipped to France, Germany and Italy. The sector comprises almost 300, two-thirds of which are exporters. The shoe and leather segment generates more than 30,000 jobs.
