Debut basketball shoe collection at Under Armour
Athletic apparel and footwear brand Under Armour is to launch its first basketball-specific footwear collection. The shoes will be available from November onwards.
The collection consists of four distinct shoes, with the Micro G Black Ice the star attraction. This shoe will be worn by NBA star Brandon Jennings this coming season.
“This is a much-anticipated and significant milestone for Under Armour as we continue to elevate our presence in the sport of basketball from grassroots to the elite level,” said Gene McCarthy, senior vice-president for footwear at the brand. “The collection provides a first taste of Under Armour’s commitment to building innovative basketball shoes that are lighter and sleeker and feature advanced technology.”
The Micro G Black Ice is designed to enhance the game of lightning quick playmakers like Brandon Jennings, the company said. Inspired by various elements of Jennings’ personal life, the Micro G Black Ice also includes Jennings’ own signature, inscribed on the inside of the shoe as a “sign-off” of the on-court performance of the shoe. Rounding out the Micro G collection are The Micro G Fly, The Micro G Blur and The Micro G Lite.
Lightweight and low to the ground, Micro G technology offers an alternative to heavier, thicker foams, giving athletes increased quickness, improved cutting ability, and enhanced elevation, according to the Maryland-based sport brand.
