China produces 23% more leather shoes

Chinese leather shoe production totalled 157 billion yuan during the first half of the year, up 23.1% compared with the same period last year. In volume terms, production was up 15.1% to 1.83 billion pairs. Production fell 5.7% in volume during the prior-year period.

Leather shoe exports rose 9% to 460 million pairs during the six months. The value rose 15.2% in value to $4.41 billion. Exports fell 24.8% in volume and 14.7% during the first six months of 2009.

China imported 6.32 million pairs of leather shoes during the January to June period, a rise of 1.9%. In value terms, exports rose 16.5% to $220 million.
