World Cup behind sales rise at adidas
Germany-based sports apparel, footwear and equipment provider adidas has reported a strong second quarter of the year thanks to the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
The company said sales of its football products should achieve a value of EUR 1.5 billion for the full year.
In a statement, chief executive, Herbert Hainer, commented: “We had an outstanding first half year driven by the World Cup and the resurgence of the Reebok brand in North America. Sales momentum at both adidas and Reebok accelerated in the second quarter with currency-neutral sales increasing by 13% and 16% respectively.”
Sales across the group for the first six months of the year had a value of EUR 5.6 billion, with profit reaching EUR 295 million.
