The Frye Company, which claims to be the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the US, is to open its first flagship store in New York’s SoHo District. The 6,000-square-foot space will offer a wide range of boots and shoes along with handbags and other leathergoods.
The store is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011 on113 Spring Street, among neighbouring luxury retailers such as Chanel, Burberry and John Varvatos.
“We are thrilled to be opening in SoHo. With its historic architecture, artist studios and fashion influence, it’s the perfect location for our flagship store,” said Larry Tarica, president and COO of Jimlar, the parent company of Frye.
Frye has commissioned Richter+Ratner to oversee the store’s construction. The company has a long heritage of building in New York having worked on The Prada Epicenter, Uniqlo flagship and several spaces at the Museum of Modern Art.
“This store will provide us [with] an environment to properly show the breadth of our approach to creating handcrafted leather products in the Frye design ethics,” Mr Tarica said.
