Sports shoe manufacturers move to Indonesia

Footwear industry leaders in Indonesia have announced new investment of $550 million in shoe manufacturing there after Taiwanese and South Korean footwear manufacturers decided to relocate plants from China and Vietnam. The information came from the Indonesian Shoes Association (Aprisindo).

The relocation, mainly to East Java, has been prompted by rising labour costs and raw material issues in China and Vietnam, and is expected to be complete within this current year, the organisation said.

The manufacturers involved make footwear for big-name sports brands, including Nike, adidas and Reebok, Aprisindo said.
