Champs Sports to start stocking Li Ning shoes

Chinese sports brand Li Ning has agreed a deal with mall-based specialty athletic footwear and apparel retailer Champs Sports under which Champs will stock Li Ning basketball shoes in 70 of its stores, mostly on the West Coast of the US, starting this autumn.

“There’s no secret we have global ambitions and the American market factors prominently,” Jay Li, general manager of Li Ning Sports USA, told US media.

Li Ning first arrived in the US more than three years ago when it opened a design centre in Portland to tap into the area’s robust talent pool of athletic footwear designers.

It now employs 27 people in Portland, two-thirds of whom are footwear designers that previously worked at companies such as adidas, Nike and Converse.
