China imports and exports more leather shoes

The China Leather Industry Association has reported export growth for leather shoes of 7.2% in volume (to 370 million pairs) and of 12.2% in value to $3.42 billion during the first five months of this year.

At the same time imports of leather footwear have also grown. For the same five-month period, the industry body said China had imported 5.27 million pairs of leather shoes with a value of $180 million, increases of 0.8% and 11.9% respectively.

In terms of the average price of Chinese leather shoes going for export, there was an increase of 4.6% to $9.33 per pair. Leather shoes coming into the country had an average price of $34.49 in the first five months of 2010, an increase of 10.9% on the same period last year.
