Francal celebrates positive mood

08/07/2010
The forty-second edition of the Francal footwear and fashion exhibition closed in São Paulo on July 8.

Footwear firms present were in positive mood after a strong start to 2010 for the Brazilian shoe industry and the organisers said they expected visitor numbers to be around 60,000 over the four days of the exhibition.

Industry observers have said a buoyant domestic market has contributed much to the success of shoe companies in the early part of the year. Figures for the January-May period show a 21.4% increase in the volume of sales compared to the same period last year at 69.4 million pairs and a 12.1% increase in value at $627.6 million.

At the start of Francal the president of Brazil's export promotions agency, Apex, Alessandro Teixeira, said Brazil ws now the fifth largest exporter of shoes in the world and the third biggest producer.
