Saucony provides footwear for Commonwealth Triathlon Series

23/06/2010

Performance footwear and apparel Saucony has agreed to be the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the 2010 Commonwealth Triathlon Series in New England.
The series, in its second year, consists of the Cohasset Triathlon (June 27), the Nantucket Triathlon (July 10), the Marlborough Triathlon (August 1), and the Scituate Duathlon (October 17).
"Our partnership with the Commonwealth Series underlines our commitment to not only the sport of triathlon but our local triathlete community in particular," said Carrie Bartlett, manager of Saucony's triathlon programme. "The combined experience that Olympian, Saucony athlete and series cofounder Jarrod Shoemaker, elite coach Tim Crowley and race director Bill Burnett bring to these races will no doubt deliver the best sprint distance (approximately 500-metre swim, 12-mile bike, 5,000-metre run) series in the country."
According to USA Triathlon, participation in triathlon in the US is at an all-time high, following unprecedented growth over the past 10 years. The biggest growth continues to be in the shorter sprint races, making the sport more accessible to first-timers as well as those with fewer hours to train. A 2009 study initiated by USA Triathlon revealed that more than three-quarters of respondents participate in the sprint distance.
