Brazilian footwear on the up

Brazil's footwear exports for the first four months of 2010 had a total value of US$522.2 million. This figure represents an 11.3% increase on the same period last year.

During the January-April 2010 period, Brazilian footwear brands exported 59.8 million pairs of shoes, an increase of more than 10 million pairs, or 20.8% on the same period last year. The figures come from the Brazilian footwear manufacturers' association, Abicalçados.

Shipments to the US increased by 6.3% in value and by 35.2% in volume over the period. For the UK, the increase in value was 7.5% and in volume 20.5%. Italy spent 30.2% more on Brazilian shoes than the year before and increased volume by 21%.
