Stella announces new Hunan factory

Hong Kong-based footwear manufacturer Stella International has signed an agreement to invest $30 million in a new factory in the Chinese province of Hunan. The new facility will be sited in the Longhui Industry Park.

Local officials said this was the largest foreign investment in Longui County in recent years and that the new shoe factory would provide job opportunities for 5,000 people.

Stella said it believed it could commence production at the new site by the end of next year.

Stella International currently makes shoes as an outsource partner to casual footwear companies Clarks, Deckers, ECCO, Rockport, Timberland and Wolverine Worldwide, to fashion brands Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole, Guess Nine West, Celine, Christian Lacroix, DKNY, Emilio Pucci, Enzo Angiolini,Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith, Sigerson Morrison and Via Spiga. It also manufactures on behalf of large retailer groups such as J.C. Penney.
