New web-based tool helps shoe firms stay legal

Spain’s Technological Institute for Footwear and Related Products (INESCOP) has announced the completion of a project to develop an environmental support tool for footwear companies. The organisation has called the web-based tool Showlaw.
The main idea behind the project was to promote knowledge of environmental legislation in the European footwear sector and the result is a system that can deliver an alert system tailored to each company’s needs.
Footwear companies in five participating EU countries—Slovenia, Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal—will be able to use the tool to view environmental legislation requirements in each of the five countries, helping them make sure that any exports they ship to one of the five are fully compliant with any regulations relating to hazardous substances such as lead, chromium VI, formaldehyde and so on.
This tool will be complemented by an alert service, which notifies companies of any change in legislation that could affect them, as well as a statistics service which allows them to compare their environmental situation with the average for the sector, making it possible to detect and improve the weak points and boost the strong points of the company.
