Shoe City to host Spanish congress

07/05/2010

The town of Arnedo in La Rioja, known locally as Shoe City because of the importance of the footwear manufacturing industry there, will host the fifty-ninth Spanish national leather and footwear congress on May 7-8.

The organiser of the event is the Spanish Leather Chemical Association (AQEIC).

The congress will open on the afternoon of May 7 with the AQEIC annual general meeting, followed by two presentations. The first of these will be a detailed talk about Arnedo and its role in the Spanish footwear industry, with Eduardo Rodríguez Osés, head of the business studies faculty at the University of La Rioja as the speaker. His paper will be followed by a talk on professional training in the tanning sector, for which the presenters will be an Arnedo high school teacher, Miguel Ángel Cordón, and a government education adviser, Luciano Busquets.

There will be 13 technical papers in the course of the second day of the congress, followed by a formal dinner and the presentation of the annual AQEIC awards.
