Provincial authorities blamed for child labour problem

Child labour is still an issue for the authorities in Vietnam. The department for child protection has told local media that there are nearly 27,000 children working in “hazardous conditions” in Ho Chi Minh City alone, with footwear and textiles among the industries taking advantage of them.

The ministry blamed provincial authorities for failing to keep track of children, who are sometimes made to work in factories for as much as 12 hours per day, sometimes receiving as little as $30 per month in pay.
