A new footwear factory is expected to open in Bangladesh later this year. Korea-based Youngone Group is setting up the new plant at the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Karnaphuli, at an estimated cost of $110 million.

The factory, which will be the largest footwear production site in Bangladesh, will start production on a trial basis in September. It will incorporate 16 buildings and is expected to provide employment for 32,000 people. There will be 72 production lines at the plant and production will initially start at four of the buildings on the lower part of the site.
