Sales rush for Reebok EasyTone shoes
16/04/2010
EasyTone is a shoe that promises the wearer extra calorie burn thanks to an innovative sole design that increases the activity of the leg and gluteus muscles in a natural running or walking stride. The soles feature three separate instability pads located at the toe, ball and heel of the shoe. The theory is that by creating “micro-instabilities”, the shoes will force the body to correct the posture by activating more muscle groups and in doing so provide a 28% increased work-out to the upper thighs and buttocks, and an 11% increase to the calves and hamstrings.
A seamless inner lining creates no areas for potential abrasion, and gives high levels of support to the arches of the feet, while underfoot foam cushioning promises “lasting comfort”.
The US and Germany were the first markets in which Reebok distributed the shoes, followed by the UK, where the shoes first went on sale at the end of March.
Reebok has said that initial reports from the US suggest a genuine rush in sales and also that the shoes have become a hot topic of conversation.
The advertising campaign that adidas has funded emphasises the supposed ease with which wearers of the EasyTone shoes can attain “the perfect lower body” and “beautifully shaped legs”.
