Fila chairman honoured for 20 years of service
Fila chairman, Gene Yoon, has been named an honorary citizen of Biella, Italy, where the sportswear brand was born. He has been involved with the brand for two decades.
Originally founded by the Fila brothers nearly 100 years ago, the company helped put Biella on the map as a place of textile innovation and craftsmanship.
The town’s mayor, Donato Gentile, presented Mr Yoon with the honorary citizenship during a ceremony on April 14, which was attended by prominent community members, government officials and a number of special guests at the town hall.
“It is an honour to be recognised by the people of Biella, Italy,” said Mr Yoon. “As we near the 100-year anniversary of the Fila brothers’ founding of the company, the contributions of the people of Biella throughout the years speak volumes to what the brand has been able to accomplish worldwide.
“On behalf of all of us who work with the brand today, I can say that not a day goes by without us all reaching back to the heritage of Fila here in Biella for inspiration.”
Another purpose of his visit to Biella is to discuss with the mayor the idea of opening a museum there to tell the story of the Fila brand.
