Golfsmith offers customised footbeds

Specialty golf and tennis equipment retailer Golfsmith has introduced a scanning system at its 72 US stores to provide custom footbeds for buyers of new golf shoes.

The technology is the 3D TruCapture Kiosk System from custom footbed supplier eSoles. It takes a 3D image of shoppers’ feet and the scan allows them to place an order for customised footbeds for their new shoes.

This move is very much in keeping with a trend sweeping across the US for custom footbeds, Golfsmith believes. Similar kiosk systems have been introduced by Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Cycle Loft and other retailers. The National Sporting Goods Association has said that one in every 15 pairs of athletic shoes sold in the US at the moment has a custom footbed.

Custom footbeds allow people to align their correctly, helping the ankles, knees, legs, hips and back in the process. They provide extra cushioning and support.
