Mario Moretti Polegato, founder and president of footwear brand Geox, has been named as the Innovator of the Year by the Financial Times and broadcaster CNBC. Mr Polegato received the award in London at the CNBC European Business Leaders Awards 2010 on March 24. More than 200 companies were involved in the selection process.
According to CNBC, the jury chose Geox’s founder because it felt the company had created a new market segment and had developed a fashion brand with an innovative technological component.
"I want to share this award with all the customers, employees and Italian universities,” said Mr Polegato, “as an expression of my personal gratitude for the confidence they have placed in the Geox group. This award is a significant milestone for the group I represent, but is also an important recognition of Italian innovation."
