Nicolina makes the museum

A footwear brand launched in Switzerland by an Australian of Greek origin, and now based in London, has won a place in Italy’s International Shoe Museum in Vigevano.

The museum's director, Pietro Bertolini, has approached footwear brand Nicolina and asked to introduce its Confidenza model, a high-end shoe in pink-embossed suede, to the museum. Like all Nicolina shoes, the Confidenza also has the brand's distinctive mark, a lilac leather sole with a single embedded diamante crystal.

Nicolina founder,
Jeremy Angelis, an Australian-born shoe designer and entrepreneur, whose Greek grandfather was a shoemaker over 60 years ago, explained that, although founed in Switzerland five years ago, the brand had ties to Italy because he now works with a team of Italian footwear artisans in his current base, London.

Reacting to the news, Mr Angelis said: “It was such a pleasure to meet Mr Bertolini and his team from the museum and I am delighted that he enjoyed viewing the Nicolina luxury shoe collection. Being asked to include our Confidenza style as part of Italy’s most important and celebrated shoe museum collection is a great honour and a fantastic way for us to celebrate our first five years. Being exhibited amongst talented creators such as Christian Louboutin, Casadei, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo is just wonderful. Importantly, being able to share our creativity and passion with luxury shoe lovers and future creators is fundamental for the future of our craft.”
