Monthly increase for Pakistan shoe exports

Pakistan's leather exports rose 10.6% in January to $70.5 million from $63.7 million in December. Footwear exports increased by 48.7%, to $9.1 million compared with $6.1 million in December.

However, leather exports for the period July 2009 to January 2010 totalled $491.1 million compared with $629.2 million during the prior-year period. The country exported 6.3 million pairs of footwear worth $57.8 million during the seven-month period, including leather footwear worth $46.5 million, canvas footwear worth $0.3 million and other footwear worth $11 million. This compared with eight million pairs worth $72.2 million in the prior-year period, a 20% decline.
