Something special for the ladies

Japanese sports brand Asics has generated high levels of publicity around the world by launching a running shoe specifically for women. Not only that, the new Kayano 16 shoe is engineered to change shape to support the different position the arch of a woman’s foot is believed to adopt during her hormonal cycle.

Asics believes this development can “enhance gait efficiency” and protect the wearer from possible damage to the Achilles heel.

The design is the result of research work by a team studying gender differences at the University of Melbourne. This exercise suggested the the hormone oestrogen can lower the position of the arch of the foot.

The new Asics shoe has gel in the insole, which allows it to change shape with the any alteration occurring in the foot of the woman wearing it.
