Shoe sales soar in Scotland

Although cold weather discouraged many Scottish shoppers from hitting the high street in January, it certainly led to an increase in shoe sales.

According to new figures in the KPMG Scottish Retail Sales Monitor, wellington and snow boots for both adults and children sold very well throughout the month.

Boots were bestsellers across the board, with knee-high boots for females selling particularly well. Sales of formal men’s shoes were also strong.

KPMG’s head of retail in Scotland, David McCorquodale, said: “It is hardly surprising that the fall in Scottish retail sales of 0.6% on a like-for-like basis virtually mirrored the UK like-for-like sales. Food sales rose marginally and clothing and footwear made a revival, but all other non-food sales slumped quite dramatically.”
