OutDry signs up climber Ueli Steck

03/02/2010

Swiss alpinist Ueli Steck has joined Italian company OutDry as a technical advisor and will endorse the brand, its technology and its products.

Mr Steck has set speed records climbing solo on three classic north faces: the Eiger, the Grandes Jorasses and the Matterhorn in the Alps as well as winning the Piolet D’Or in 2009. While climbing Gasherbrum II last summer and Makalu in the autumn, he tested Mountain Hardwear gloves containing OutDry technology and said they were “much better than anything else” he had tried. “OutDry is the future,” he said at the time.

OutDry manufactures patented laminate membrane technology for waterproof, windproof and breathable footwear and gloves. Its technology is used by a number of outdoor and sportswear companies including Lafuma, Trezeta, Gronell, Hugo Boss, Mountain Hardwear, Kamik, Mont-Bell, Descente and Bridgestone.

“We are honoured to have such a distinguished alpinist as a partner, says co-founder Matteo Morlacchi. “Having one of the world’s best climbers on our team means we can work together to develop better products by selecting the best materials and utilise our technology to its highest degree of performance. Ueli’s extensive experience in the mountains with technical products will offer OutDry unique insight to future product developments.”
