Ho Chi Minh shoe exports rise
Exports from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam rose 8.8% in January compared with January 2009 figures. Exports from the city totalled $1.3 billion during the first month of the year.
Footwear exports saw one of the largest increases, up 10.8% to $34 million, while garment exports rose 12.7% to $134 million and rice exports rose 42.1% to $63.3 million. Footwear component exports rose 21.1%.
According to reports, the end of 2009 saw a number of shoe and garment contracts signed. However, firms within these sectors continue to face challenging conditions, particularly because it lacks skilled workers.
