IBV, the Biomechanics Institute of Valencia, has reported that it is currently carrying out analysis of a new model of footwear for women, based on what it has called “intelligent materials” that have “in-built memory”, allowing a shoe to mould itself to the shape of the foot and adapt as the wearer walks.

The institute said on announcing the development that it was optimistic about the ability of the technology to increase comfort levels in women’s shoes and to help consumers avoid bunions and other foot health problems.

It said it believed as many as one woman in five suffers from bunions and believes that the new project, called Shop Instant Shoe, will prove attractive. The technology can be used in high-end, leather footwear for top fashion collections.
