Tough year for components and machinery

05/01/2010

The Spanish Footwear Components and Machinery Association (AEC) has said that 2009 was one of the toughest years ever for the sector, principally because of the severe effects in Spain of the economic and financial downturn.

The association’s director general, Álvaro Sánchez, said that footwear production in the country was down and that this had affected adversely the sales of components and machines. He said that the situation of some of his member companies had been so serious that they were, at times, “in danger of being unable to continue because of a lack of cash-flow and the impossibility of being able to work in a stable manner with financial institutions”.
